When I purchased my Miata seats there
were 4 sets to choose from, and the
seller could not tell me which model
year they came from. The seats I
purchased have wiring and space for
speakers, so I guess they are no newer
than 98. Is there any other way to tell
what the actual year is without knowing
which car they came from?

Remember, if you are looking for
replacement seats for your roadster,
make sure you are fitting to the left
side, not the right. The distance from
the left side of the offcenter hump to
the left edge of the floorpan is
narrower than the same measurement on
the right side of the hump.

All the first generation (made until 98)
Miata seats are the same except
for some minor differences. I don't know
what the differences are with the
later seats although I do know is that
they didn't have speakers in the
headrests.
