Friends, in the course of my "Let's put the thing together and see what
is missing" I'm requesting help (1) regarding the fixing of the
ventilator assembly. Deep down inside the door, the bottom of the window
guide is fixed to the door interior by means of a small bracket. One
side carries two longitudinal slots for fixing the bracket to the guide,
the other side has two rather large holes, nearly 9/16" in dia. The
holes in the door interior are the same size.
According to the Body Service Parts List there are three items needed to
fix the bracket: a funnily shaped clip in spring steel (part 53K3039), a
washer (AJD7202) and a self tapping screw PJZ1004. When I understand the
BMC coding correctly, the PJZ1004 is a No.10 screw which, again if I'm
not mistaken, has a head dia between .357 and .373" . The head of the
screw is in that case far smaller than the hole in the bracket and I'm
at a loss how the bracket can be firmly fixed that way. And I also
don't see the reason for the holes being that large.
(2) Another question relates to the spring that is in the window winding
mechanism. In my case the spring fell on the floor and can be fitted
both ways. What is the purpose of this spring? Is it to ease the upward
movement of the window? In that case I can figure out how I should fit
the spring. Is there any preload on the spring?
Finally (3) What is the thread size of the male and female flare
fittings on the brake and clutch lines? I went to a shop to-day to have
two missing pipes made up and they gave me the choice out of more than
30 different thread sizes - straight, tapered, metric, NPT, BSF, BSP,
the whole alphabet.
