Simon,
I just took my hand brake apart for de-rusting, cleaning etc. I take it 
you know the adjusting method  as per the driver's manual and/or the 
workshop manual, but you want more. At the axle side the cable ends in a 
piece of threaded rod which is connected to the cable. Don't  try to 
rotate this as the cable will rotate as well but can't because it is 
held at the hand brake lever end.. On the threaded rod a fork is screwed 
with a locknut, and the fork is attached to the balance lever with a 
clevis pin. Undo the clevis pin, take the fork out of the balance lever, 
try to unlock the locknut (good luck!) and try to turn the fork in 
relation to the threaded rod. Again good luck to you - I had the cable 
on my workbench in a vice and just managed to get the parts separated. 
Use a lot of WD40 or similar goo. Replacing the cable is a rather nasty 
job as there's a lot in the way, like a prop shaft. If you can undo the 
prop shaft it shouldn't be too difficult. Otherwise you're welcome at my 
place - I have a car lift making this job a lot easier. Maybe you can 
find a car lift or a friendly garage a bit closer to home? I wish you 
luck and success - and keep the First Aid kit handy!
