Let me ask you this Richard - When you order brake pads for your car, do you
order early model brake pads (i.e. same as BT7/BJ7/ early BJ8) or do you
order brake pads for a BJ8?  This will help us figure out your problem.

Sounds like your hubs may indeed be machined wrong.  Try this hub supplier
in the UK, they are the main manufacturer for most healey hubs in the
market:
