That's a very common tactic anywhere outside of the United States.  When I
brought my BJ8 to Hong Kong, I was prepared to register it as a Sprite to
avoid excessive import duties (100% of estimated value!!!), but thankfully I
found a loophole and was able to register it as a BJ8 without paying too
much in duty.

Unfortunately, there is a liter based annual registration fee here, so the
2.9 liters does cost more to register every year versus a 1275 sprite, but
that's immaterial!  At least I'm under the next cuttoff of 3.0 liters...
didn't bother to tell them I have .40 over pistons which probably puts it at
3 liters...
