The Ford part number quoted below is an exact replacement in brass of the
plastic float that comes from Moss with the replacement sending unit and
that usually has a crack or hole in it right out of the box.  It is intended
to be clipped into a C-shaped curve on the end of the float arm.  The
original Healey float is about twice as long as the Ford float, is soldered
to its float arm, and I don't think the buoyancies are equivalent.  In
summary, the Ford float is not a replacement for the original Healey float,
but it will substitute for the Moss plastic float.

I would second Len's suggestion to find the leak point of the original float
and solder it up.

And just yesterday, I saw on a website an ad for a sealant that is
impervious to fuel and oil.  Now, if I could only remember where.  If I can
find it again, I'll report.

Jim:  Many moons ago someone on The List stated that Ford Part #
COAZ-9202-B was a suitable substitute.  It was indicated that this was a
brass float and cost about $4.00.  As I said - many moons ago .....  I have
not purchased one - yet - so I can't verify the facts.

I just had the same problem this week.  Drilled a small hole in the end,
drained the gas out, soldered up the hole.  Could not find any hole or
crack that would have allowed the leak so I may only be good for a short
while.  THEN I may go visit my local Ford parts department.
