Charley:

        If it is feasible for the customer to ship the part back it saves a
lot of money.  UPS adds a healthy charge for call tags.  Usually if it is
the companies fault there should not be a problem getting the freight
refunded.  Sometimes though, fault is hard to pinpoint.

        Any time that shipping costs can be reduced means that the savings
can be passed along.  Making a company pay call tags for all errors would
result in higher operating expenses which either help to put a company out
of business, or put prices up.

        Company resources are not unlimited, and profitability of niche
market industries tends to be low.  Be kind to your supplier, the money you
save may be your own.
