   If you are going to be restoring your truck back to original, then
you need to be looking for a 216. If not, then just about any engine can
be made to fit.
I have seen that Jim Carters sells rebuilt short blocks, both 216's and
235's, in the $1100.00 range plus another $300 or so for a reconditioned
head, and another $175 for a core. It looks like you can order a
specific motor for a specific year. For what its worth, when I had my
216 rebuilt about a year ago, it cost right at $1300.00, so these aren't
that far off. Another thing to remember is that as a listee you get a
10% discount on most stuff from Carters, but I don't know if that
includes engines.
