No need to go "rod" !!  You can easily add an in-line filter between the
tank and the pump.  If you're concerned about maintaining stock
appearance, the filter can be installed along the frame rail or under
the cab where it is hidden from view.  I installed one in the rubber
link between the tank outlet and the fuel line and it cured my constant
carb fouling problem.  NAPA has a variety of styles to choose from.
