Its easy to see that a tank of our size could collapse when you 
figure it out. If the fuel pump puts a vacuum in the tank the 
surrounding atmospheric pressure of 14 psi would crush the tank in 
milliseconds. 14 psi times 144 sq. in. in 1 sq. ft. equals 2116 
psf....I think a tank would crush with this much pressure... Remember 
in old trucks the fuel lines were hard piped with no rubber lines 
connecting anything together...
