with the information i have read , you have a alt with a regulator outside
the  unit?
check the wire to big post on alt with a test lite.
it should be hot; if not it goes to ampmeter if you have one, then to the
post on starter.
if it is hot then chech conections at reg with lite, one should turn on and
off with key. if not check fuses or ignition  switch ect.
