Kirk, I have done a little more research on your engine and here is what I
found:

I was wrong...."S" was used '57, '58 and '59 (I missed the '59). My book
lists '58 & '59 as 283 4 barrel. Is yours a 2v or 4v?

If your casting number is 3731548 then it is definitely a '57 block (2 bolt
main), that number is only used in '57.

The cranks were all forged in '57 and should be stamped 3735236. There were
thick and thin top pistons used, the 6000 series and up got the thick ones.

You will need to remove the valve cover to confirm the heads are correct.
The '57 head could be one of the following: 3731539, 3731544, 3731554,
3731556, 3740997, 3747363, 3755537, 3755549, 3836842, 3837064,
3848720.

Also the '57 283 has a canister type oil filter in the normal location on
the drivers side. The only V8 without an oil filter is the '55 265.

Hope this helps,
