Whoa! Back the truck up! You said it wasn't bored out but the diameter is
4.020" ??? Are you sure its not 4.002" Are you measuring this at the top of
the cylinder or the bottom... Why didn't you get it bored? What did the
machine shop do? If the bore measures 4.020 then the pistons need to be
replaced as the piston skirts will slap the walls when cold. You will also
need to replace the rings. Do not pound them in or you will crack the ring
lands on the piston. Did you check the diameter of the cylinder in the
bottom of the cylinder? Did you check the ring gap at the bottom? Did you
lube the cylinder before you insert the piston? They fit kinda tight
anyway. I know this is a lot of questions but with the little info you gave
leaves me little choice but to inquire. There are so many kits out there
that you can get a new block with all the components for less than $650.00
say from PAW or Midwest etc. You got to put them together but I did it and
it works for me.

Hi all:

I've run into a weird problem with my 350 engine build. I got the block
back
from the machine shop and the cylinders were just cleaned up, not bored.
They
are standard and mic to 4.02. I got some standard rings and am reusing the
old pistons. The piston grooves have been thoroughly cleaned and then
soaked
in a solvent and are completely clean (no carbon). When I tried to
installed
the #1 piston (all pistons were marked when removed) with the rings, it
will
not go in. The ring gap is about .025. I finally forced it thinking that
there might be a slight ridge still on the bore and once past that it would
be
fine..... this thing is super tight all the way down the bore. Therefore,
the
only thing I can figure is that the rings are wrong... too thick or the
wrong
ones or something. Has anyone else run into this and can you give me any
advice?

Thank you very much!
