This weekend we completed our newly fabricated frame for our 59 3100 step.
We had to make sure that the frame was not twisted at any time. While we did
not experience your problem exactly - we had to account for it. Our
solution? Set one rail perfectly level, both side to side and front to back.
Now you have a starting point - diagonal measure everything to check for
square. Then break out the level again and see how level the other frame
rail is. Also check level from right side to left side. Check every 6 inches
(or less) or so (watch out for raised areas on the driver side of the frame
(especially near the e-brake) as they will throw you off on measurements).
If you find a location that is twisted, then I don9t know what to do!
Heating the frame will weaken it, not something desirable. So you would be
stuck with cold bending.
Our solution was simply to fabricate a new frame from tube steel - if you do
this, I don't suggest using 1/4" (what we used) inch thickness. Truckin'
magazine just did a frame using 1/8" wall thickness. Our frame alone - no
suspension weighs approximately 600lbs.

Another hint = tack weld in a temp x-member to hold square.
