James,

I did see the Triumph World mag but didn't finish the article in question,
(the assistant in the local Esso station wanted me to buy it or put it back
on the shelf). However I rushed out to the garage, 12 hours later, to look
at my '81 registered Spit.

The green pipes are vent tubes and end at the bottom of the radiator, that's
it - no canister or twiddly bits - just open ended.

The trim above the door doesn't seem to be leatherette but a hard, thin,
plastic coating of crinkle type paint, my old X19 had the same stuff in both
boots, if anyone knows where to buy it let me know.

The tread plates - usually stainless steel - are present on my car and have
been on all the late reg cars I've seen, replacements are £7.00 each from
John Kipping.

There's a round button on the right hand side of my dash that's for the rear
fog lights (the things that fell off on mine) but I haven't a big square
thing below it.

Hope that helps,

Paul
