Don't remember seeing these on my '77, but Paul said he had them, so he
must be right....

Mine is the same hard crinkled stuff that Paul describes.

I have these tread plates on mine - but I believe there was an package
of optional extras which was available which included these tread
plates, headrests, and a central armrest. I may be wrong.....

The round button - are you sure it's a button, not a light? I have an
orange tell-tale for the indicators there. As for the big square thing,
I think that would be the washer/wiper switch/hand pump. (Incidentally,
if anyone knows the electrical details of that switch, I'd be grateful -
mine doesn't work, and at £35 a go for a replacement, I think I may have
to replace it with something else short term until I get a pay rise!)
