I believe the lobes, although somewhat worn, should be
sufficient to anchor this "shutter". What about the
shaft itself? Could wear in the shaft be enough to
displace the light beam from the sensor causing
failure? 

I'm wondering if I could get bushings to reduce the
clearance of the shaft to factory spec inside the
distributor housing. (I'm trying to remove any
excessive clearance or "play").
