At least you're ok (at least I assume you are?) - that's the most
important thing.
There's probably about a million mechanical things that could go wrong
and cause a car to spin. I guess you could take a good look at the
suspension, but if something's broken I don't know how you'd tell if it
broke before or during the spin. There are guys out there working for
the police who specialise in determining this kind of thing, but I'm not
one of them...
If there's no sign of any mechanical problems and you're looking at
possible driver error: You said you were going up a slight hill - you
didn't happen to change down a gear (or disengage o/d) just before the
spin, to get a bit more power to push you up the hill? That's about the
only thing I can think of from the description you gave, but I think
something mechanical is more likely from your description.

Subject: Spit Spin
Has anyone ever had a spit spin for no apparant
reason?
While going to Lexington, Ky this weekend, my 79 spit
that had just had the axle u-joints replaced, spun out
and I lost it. I don't know how many spins, but hit
the guardrail twice. Not much left :-(
Well, I was going to replace the tub anyway. I had
already found one that had been Z-barted by previous
owner.
I can't seem to figure out why it spun, not going over
60 mph, not in sharp curve, but a gentle curve going
up a slight upgrade.
