I had the same problem on a rear brake:  The hose (which was original, as far 
as I could tell)
had apparently swelled shut, and only a tiny trickle of fluid managed to
make it way through it.  From the outside, the hose looked fine.

I replaced both rear hoses with stock OEM ones.

I don't really see the point of using fancy braided hoses.  Go look at the 
late-model
car you normally drive.  Does it have braided hoses? If not, why aren't you 
considering
changing its hoses to braided ones?  After all, you probably drive it a lot more
than your Spit...

Also, I wouldn't assume that the SS hoses are better-made than the brand-name 
OEM ones.
Maybe they are, but may they aren't.  
That pretty SS could have some thin, cheap rubber or plastic (which actually 
contains
the fluid) beneath it.
