Martin,

Eerrmm, something funny going on here.

Things might be different on the MkI, but for my 1500 the voltage regulator
had 2 terminals - one was for the voltage supply from the fuse, the other
was the output to feed voltage to the gauges. It was also essential that
the regulator was screwed down to a good earth, as it was earthed through
the casing - normal procedure was to support it under the nut that retains
the speedo.

Both gauges were fed off one terminal, and there was only one spade
connector that did both of them. Don't pay too much attention to the wiring
diagram when looking for details of how wires connect to various items -
it's supposed to be a schematic, it doesn't aim to show details of the
connections.

Also, are you sure the indicators are supposed to be connected to the
voltage regulator? They certainly weren't on my 1500, and I can't see any
good reason why they would be, it would only make them dimmer. Maybe it is
the case that a wire comes from the fuse, there is a spade connector
part-way along for the regulator, then the wire continues to supply the
indicator? I suspect close examination of the wiring diagram is in order!

How many connections does your new regulator have? Maybe one of them is
supposed to be an earth connection?? Or are two of them visibly connected
together, in which case this is probably the output side?

Richard
