I'm still at this ignition thing.

At idle, at about 1000 rpm, she purrs steadily,
punctuated by an irregular "thud" -- a miss. A steady,
but irregular miss:
        Purrrrrrrr ThudpurrrrrThudThudpurrrrrrrrr
        PrrrrrThudThudThudpurrrrrrrrrthud ...etc

I put in fresh Champ N9Ys, clipped and rescrewed both
ends of each plug wire, and rechecked the gap and the
timing. What could it be?

I did take a look at the piece of plug wire clipped when I
re-bedded the screws Only had about 6 silvery wires and
maybe 3 or 4 copper wires at the core. Are these Junk Wires?
What should they look like inside?

The coil's been in this thing, probably from the beginning in '72.
Would an old coil cause a miss at idle? It's old and dirty,
but the spark is blue. How does on know when a coil's going
bad?

I have leaned out the carbs a bunch. The plugs used to come
out looking black and a little fluffy. Now they come out
light gray with no fluff. Izzat ok?

I'll take any and all suggestions.
