Not so sure about its effect on brass, but the solution is anything but 
caustic.  It is merely a solution of washing soda and water.  Some folks use 
baking 
soda and water, but I understand washing soda is a better choice.  Only thing 
about using baking soda solution is if you happen to get heartburn during the 
process. . . .
