The illustration (plate AZ) in the factory Spare Parts Catalogue for the
TR4 shows the recessed pan, but I've seen both types in TR4s. Could be
variations on the theme from different suppliers?

Again referring to the Parts Catalogue, the seat changes are referenced by
body number, not by commission number. The late type diaphragm seats were
introduced at body number 20695CT. The catalogue describes several
different pre-diaphragm seats, which may account for the difference in the
pans you described.

If cars had evolved as fast as computers have, by now they'd cost a
quarter, run for a year on a half-gallon of gas, and explode once a day.
