Pat,
An article in "Your Classic" magazine from October 1993 (page 106) also
described a similar routine for Triplex glass.  Assuming that you know the
decade the car was built, years 1 through 9 are indicated in turn by single
dots beneath the letters TOUGHENED, with 0 years as a dot below and after
the D.  It then says that the quarter can then be determined by dots over
TRIPLEX, so cars from Jan. to Mar. would have a dot over the T, Apr. to
June are over the R, July to Sept. over the E, and Oct. to Dec. over the X.  
Unfortunately, my mail reader scrambled the dots in your message.  How does
this compare?
