More Personal Experience:

More cool things about spacers.
My father and I made up some .250 spacers for my wire wheeled TR4A in 
exactly this manner. I repaced all 16 studs with longer disc wheel 
studs. Now I can convert back and forth between wires and Minilites 
as quickly as changing tires! Bill Piggott mentions this in "Original 
TR"... seems to work perfectly. I must recomend against using any 
sort of "generic" or "slotted" spacer...too much shearing stress on 
the studs....
