There are some variations in the block groove it fits into because the
precise depth was not critical with the old oil filter spring load
arrangement.  Thus, some playing is required to achieve a good seal both
inner and outer.  My outer groove was unusually deep and had to machine down
the inner ring slightly to get a good seal on the outer ring. Most do not
need to do this. It is not a big deal and once done the perpetual
convenience of spin on filters makes it all worthwhile.
