Even if the return address is valid, the receiving mail server usually has
filters against large messages, or multiple messages from the same source.
Almost any direct retaliation you can think of (including sending them
viruses) has already been tried and defended against.

However, there are reasonably effective ways to fight back, mostly by
complaining to their ISP and/or their "ISP's ISP".

Go to your favorite web search engine and search for "anti spam", you'll get
lots of links to sites with good info.  Just a few :
