IMO your problem is more likely valve guides that have been installed
too tight. Lack of oil to the rockers can cause rapid wear, but should
not cause the valves to hang open.
It's an easy mistake to get the rear cam bearing turned wrong on
installation, so that the oil passage to the head is blocked. To check
that the bearing itself is being oiled, remove the set screw in the side
of the block for the rear cam bearing, then start the engine. You
should get a modest flow of oil from the hole.
If the insert is turned wrong, you can use the external oil feed, but my
experience is that it lets too much oil into the head, leading to
increased oil burning. I eventually removed the oil feed, and used a
long magnetized drill bit to drill down through the bearing shell, then
flushed it out as best I could. It's hokey, but my engine is still
running strong after over 3 years of daily driving.
Of course, I'm still planning a real rebuild "real soon now".
