For the second time in two months my tr3 has swallowed an intake valve.
First it was number 3 cyl. this time its the 4th cyl. The engine was
rebuilt in 1987 and has less than 1 hour on it. I was hoping to finally get
it on the road after 20 years, but am slightly discouraged with recurring
motor troubles of one sort or another. Haven't pulled the cyl. head yet,
but it appears to be the same problem ie. the intake valve gets scored up
and hangs open. the last time resulted in a broken push rod, this time the
push rod seems to have survived. methinks I am looking at a lack of
lubrication to the valves?? there is oil on the valve gear, but the inside
of the valve cover is almost totally dry after about 5 minutes running.
Question for the group today is....do I assume the oil line to the rockers
is partly obstructed, or am I probably losing oil to the rear cam bearing as
well, do I ignor this and add an external line in hopes of adequate oil to
the valves?! I really don't want to pull the motor at this stage of the
resto.!! excuse the lenght of this post please!! page two of the motor
problems tomorrow!! Rob Burnett 63 tr3b having rebirthing problems!
