I'm pretty sure the grease fitting has a pipe thread.  It's most likely a
1/8" pipe thread.  This is a taper thread with 27 tpi, (not 28) and has a
pitch diameter at the smallest end of the taper of .363 ins.  I can see how
it could be easily confused with a 3/8' UNF thread.  1/8" pipe taps can be
obtained at any hardware store.  The 1/8" is NOT a  typo - the 1/8" refers
to the nominal size of the pipe, not the thread diameter.
