I think I can feel a large CLUNK coming from the rear of the transmission.

I think I can feel it where my right shin rests against the support piece
that goes
from the floor to the dash. . although I can't remember feeling it at the
gear shift
knob.

Anyway .. I have my suspicions that the rear mount for the transmission is
messed up.

It could also be the mounting bolts for the aluminium yoke are loose. This
is the piece that stradles the transmisson and attaches to the bottom of
the dash panel. It's purpose (besides hilding the radio) is to reduce
scuttle shake and if the bolts are loose the flexing in the body can cause
the feet to slip under the bolts.

And that is the piece next to your shin.

Good Luck

Dave
