Mark,
        Wait!  Don't hammer yet.
        WD-40 is not the best for this job.  I hear an aerosol called "PB 
Blaster" is very good.  I saw it in my local auto parts store.
        Though not available retail, I use "Kroil" for loosening frozen 
hardware.  It is so much better than "Liquid Wrench" I couldn't 
believe it.  A propane torch helps, too.
