Let's be clear here.  There are many different kinds of alcohol.  If you
want to try this trick, be sure to get 95% (or 190 proof) pure (or
denatured) ethyl alcohol (also known as grain alcohol or Ethanol).  Your
local paint supply may carry this as shellac thinner.

'Drug store' or rubbing alcohol is normally isopropyl alcohol, you don't
want that.

Methanol (also known as wood alcohol, Methyl Alcohol or menthylated spirits)
is also available, and would probably work for reducing emissions, but has
been documented to do bad things to your fuel system (like corroding carbs)
when used in high concentrations.
