TR-4s with whitewalls...

OK, I can reluctantly accept that some folks might think that whitewall
tires on a sports car are "cool", however misguided I  think that may be.

But to say that "The only blackwalls [available for the TR4] were the
Michelin X tires and they looked quite plain.  Back then ALL tires were
whitewalls except trucks." is just not correct.

My '63 TR4 was delivered to me new with blackwall tires (NOT Michelins), as
nature intended. In my view, the more a sports car looks like a race car,
the better it looks.

Ol' Yaller and a few other deviants aside, race cars do not have whitewall
tires. Very old Packards and LaSalle sedans have whitewall tires. People who
wear spats drive cars with whitewall tires.

Back in 1963, in fact, the only sports cars I saw with whitewall tires were
120 Jaguars, old, outdated and stodgy even then. Of course, I lived in
California at the time, which is not exactly the real world  :-)
