In my biased opinion a TR4 is the best TR for dog or child carrying. 
 The bench is standard equipment (vs. the TR3) and quite usable since 
you don't lose any room to the hood and frame as you do for a TR4A and 
TR6.  My 50 pound border collies are good friends and don't mind sharing 
the bench -- this is true for my 5 and 6 year old boys as well, both 
around 50 pounds too.  From what I've seen, a TR3 can really only carry 
two kids, while I can squeeze in three scrawny ones.  Plus you get the 
retro styling spirit of a TR3 with the wind-up window civility of a TR6.

If it'll help, I'll stage a couple photos for you to help convince your 
wife. ;-)
