Not true, the engine is making far less torque than is being applied to the
halfshafts. It's multiplied by both the gears in the transmission, and the
gears in the differential.

Ah but you have to look at the engine and transmission as a single unit
since they are bolted up solid to each other. The reaction torque from the
torque applied to the driveshaft is felt by the transmission casing and
transmitted through the bell housing to the engine block to the engine
mounts. If it wasn't the transmission would start spinning in the tunnel.
