Summer 1972 out of the Navy a couple of moonths 24 yrs old coming back to
western Chicago burbs from Cortez CO. driving a 67 TR4a OD. A little wide
awake assisted by the white cross... 17 hours straight shot. Stopped only
for gas and one truck stop for a quick bowl of soup and coffee w/gas just
west of IL state line. Long stretches at 90 mph acrosss NB and the plains.
Averaged nearly 75 + mph. Couple of quarts of oil along the way. A wild all
night ride...passing semis @ 70+ in pouring rain so hard that as I came
abreast of them I could see nothing but H2O... just kept the pedal to the
metal, the beast pointed in a straight line and prayed. Whoo Hooo! Arrived
home noonish on a Friday and still managed to party hearty that night. I had
called my pals from CO just before departure telling them I was on the way.
They could not believe I made it in that amount of time. I was a bit wilder
then Ya think!?

Whoa! I thought I was doing good through Kansas on the trip home from the
Colorado convention.
