With the windscreen off, I can now repair the poor repairs made to the
scuttle panel where a PO apparently mounted Brooklands type windscreens. There
are
four pairs of holes in the panel, and the areas surrounding each have been
poorly filled in and painted with badly-matching paint. One pair of holes
still
has sheared off bolts in place that protrude slightly above the panel surface.
How are these bolt holes treated on original cars? Were "place holder" bolts
installed in the holes? Are there captive nuts underneath the scuttle panel
to hold the bolts, or loose nuts? Piggot's "Original Triumph" shows a picture
of a TR2 with four single bolts in place where I have four pairs of bolt
holes on my TR3A for the "competition windscreens."
Lastly, what size and kind of bolts were used for this application?
With no intention to use Brookland screens, one option would be to just fill
in all the holes, paint the area and be done with it. My preference is to
keep it original, if possible.
