Maybe that's
not what you meant? :) Actually my car shipped with modern radial tires,
the optional
Michelin X's. I bought the car with quite old Michelin XZX tires (NLA
for a reasonable
price), and replaced those in 2002 with 165R15 Dunlop SP20's (NLA). I
run 165R15's
on my old Volvo too, Coopers in the summer and the Vredestein studded
snows I used
to run on the TR4 in winter (both still available).
Randall pointed out that 205's might be wider than recommended if your
wheels are
less than 5.5", but keep in mind that 165's would be crazy narrow if
your wheels are 6".
The stock minimal tire contact patch makes for easy drifting through
hard corners, but
I understand many drivers prefer grip. Fat wheels might rub a little or
you might not
like the look of a crowded wheel well. Find the recommended range for your
wheel size and choose accordingly. And if you're looking for a snow tire
for your TR4,
skinnier is better.
