FWIW
I was had a Steering Rack (supplied by customer) to fit to a Dolomite, as
always I tested its operation in my hands before starting the job, it felt
rough so I slid a boot off and it was still full of beads, closer
investigation revealed evidence to suggest that the rack had been re-built
and then blasted and painted. The boots had paint on and the surface of the
rubber appeared to have also been blasted. Needless to say I would not fit
this rack and suggested the customer send it back from whence it came with a
covering note asking what would happen if the beads had caused the rack to
jamb, would they have accepted responsibility for any damage or worse, loss
of life!
I do not know the outcome except that the customer would not accept
anything other than a refund so he could get a rack else where! Best of all
it was dearer than the rack from a reputable source! A new rack was sourced
from a reputable supplier and it was perfect!
