They take about a half hour to rebuild in the field and a rebuild kit 
takes up WAY less space than a spare electric pump and is way cheaper.

Normal failure mode for a mechanical pump is that it pumps less fuel. 
Normal failure mode for an electric pump is that it ceases pumping 
completely.

But you are a big boy so you should be capable of deciding what you 
would prefer to have fail at some future time in the boonies.

Remember DCOEs like 3 lbs max pressure.  Most electric fuel pumps put 
about 15-17 pounds pressure out.  The mechanical pumps are a perfect 
match for DCOEs.
