No, you don't need to replace the entire hub. And, I wouldn't recommend
welding the stud in place. It might be possible to have a shop weld up the
exisitng hub and re-drill/re-tap it for the same stud.
A better solution, I know Revington TR has developed some replacement
wheel studs for just this sort of situation, for certain Triumphs. But I'm not
sure if they offer them to fit Spitfire. Check their website.
Basically, the replacment studs are one size larger at the base where they
thread into the hub, but use the same threads-per-inch. A special tap is
supplied with the stud, which is just run through the existing hole with the
stripped threads. Then the new stud is threaded in place. The external threaded
portion of the stud is the same as original, so the original lug nuts will
still
fit.

I replaced the wheel studs in the front wheel of my Triumph Spitfire.
Everything was fine until I got to the last one. The stud keeps
spinning even though it is far enough in that it should grab and not
turn anymore. Can I just tack weld it in place? Are there other
options? Or do I have to buy a new front hub?
