Well, some jack stands work. I've got one of the folded sheet metal ones
nailed to the garage wall as a reminder. It crumpled without warning (much
like cinder blocks can). These days, I insist on the type with the welded
base and cast iron jaw; preferably with each stand rated about twice what
the entire car weighs.
These are the ones I reach for first (although mostly because of the extra
