For pipe thread joints (National Pipe Taper), I usually use Rectorseal.
There are several versions and the "Tru-Blue" is vibration resistant and is
also resistant to gasoline and oil. You may see this being used on propane
and natural gas joints by service people. Buy a small container - unless you
use large quantities over a short time, the screw cap will eventually glue
itself to the can. Maybe you could go your plumber's shop and have them coat
the plug right then and there and then you simply install the plug.

Subject: [TR] rear oil gallery end plug

Putting a new clutch in the TR3A this weekend and noticed a trace of oil
coming down from the rear oil gallery plug. When I removed the plug it
looks like the engine builder used RTV in the threads to seal it, so I was
wondering what might be a better solution. My first thought was to coat the
threads with Permatex as Teflon tape would probably not hold up to the heat.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bill
