That's what I thought before I purchased 5 side shift boxes on and off ebay. Its a total hit and miss idea. Most of the good boxes worth anything are long gone or the internals are shot. Best to bite

Could be a fowled plug. Plugs are cheap and and easy to change. I had a grain of sand lodged between the electrode and the plug finger once that gave me all kinds of weird problems, till I found it.
