Its fairly easy to disassemble. Undo the bolts holding the plastic back on the alternator, and then you should eb able to see the back of the 2 brushes, one in the centre of the spindle and one next

I noted similar, I was replacing the whole system as part of a rebuild. Copper pipes, new slaves, rebuilt callipers, braided hoses etc. The only thing I didn't change was the master cylinder seals..

I have seen one of these conversions over here in the UK, I'm not sure but I think the engine was tilted.. The only trouble with the Sprint engine is the Head and head gasket, very prone to leaking
