I am switching my 216 from 6 volt (actually 8 volt batt.) to 12 volts. I have decided to go with a 12V batt., 12V generator, 12V regulator, 12V coil, 12V bulbs etc. My question is where does the igni

It should go before the coil, in the hot wire that supplies voltage. There is also a provision for supplying full 12 volts while the starter is cranking only if you use the starter switch with the si

He is using a 12 volt coil... its the points he is worried about saving from double the voltage they need. Good idea too! oletrucks is devoted to Chevy and GM trucks built between 1941 and 1959

Usually the resistor goes between the switch and the coil. It's actually to reduce amperage to the coil at low speeds to prevent overheating it. Its a variable resistor, as the amperage through it g

On my '57, it goes between the ignition switch and the coil. The goal is to drop out around 6 volts so you don't fry the points. On the '57, there is a contact on the starter solenoid that routes 12

I am doing the same thing Tom is doing only because nobody will be able to tell that I went to 12 volts. The only way to physically tell is the RED label on the generator and the pulley size and I ha

The ballast resistor is actually to reduce the voltage during driving. The car starts on 12 volts through a bypass circuit, then when the key is moved to the "run" position, the car runs on 6 volts (
