Hi; Can anyone with the right book help me out? I have a 51 GMC longbed pickup which I bought about 6 years ago from a guy that brought it up here to Ohio from Oklahoma. Haven't done much with it yet

Well its a 248 engine (from the engine number by the distributor) and its a long wheelbase 1/2 ton (by the model 102 on the door post). But it's probably not the original engine as that would have be

I have a Maintenance Manual for 1947-1954 GMC Trucks. 102-22 is the model number. It should have 125 1/4 inch wheelbase and came with a 228CID. Thats all can tell you for now. I have a model 101-22 w

Note the horsepower ratings used by GMC were SAE net ratings. I have no idea why this was the case, but the 228 was closer to 100 hp using the more common gross rating. So the 248 has about 10% more
