Seems to me that would leave only a small filter area in use. Those dirt bikes have much smaller engines and don't need as much air as a Triumph engine does, and yet have quite a bit more filter are

I think the reason that dirt bikes have large filters is not that the foam is particularly restrictive, but that dirt bikes are used in dirt. The filter media is expected to BECOME more restrictive
