I went to a 9:1 piston on my last overhaul to my 71BGT (its been ten years now!). The piston head is flatter (the 8:1 has a depression in the crown). My main concern was the need for a higher octane

Displacement is determined by the bore and stroke of the engine and is not altered simply by changing pistons. You would have to bore the engine or increase the stroke to achieve higher displacement

Well fortunately it's not that bad yet, but the inspectors (at the TUV) know what headers look like, the have a hunch that british cars did not come with 2 double Webers (with only one "b" please!!!!
